Michelle Duggar, star of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting, believes all the warnings about overpopulation of the Earth are a “lie”. In an interview with the Christian Broadcasting network, Duggar family matriarch Michelle Duggar said the whole “idea of overpopulation is not accurate” and those who believe in it are being “deceived”.
Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar currently have 19 children ranging in age from 2 to 24. Their eldest son, Joshua Duggar, already has two children of his own. Michelle Duggar miscarried a 20th child in December, but has not announced any plans to stop procreating at 45 yearsold.
Responding to criticism about her and her husband’s decision to have 19 children in world scientists claim is already heavily overcrowded, reality TV star Michelle Duggar said she did not believe in the whole idea of overpopulation. Duggar, who stars in TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting with husband Jim Bob Duggar, told the Christian Broadcasting Network that the “mindset” of overpopulation is inaccurate “because, really, the entire population of the world, if they were stood shoulder to shoulder, could fit in the city limits of Jacksonville.”
Duggar was presumably referring to the city of Jacksonville, Arkansas in her home state. Jacksonville has an approximate population of 28,500. Just for fun’s sake, I’d love to see a mathematician actually work out that equation for Michelle Duggar in a visual representation.
According to Michelle Duggar, her questionable math thus proves “we’re not anywhere near being overpopulated.” Plus, Duggar says, the Duggar family is not a burden on the world’s resources because they shop at thrift stores and buy used cars. (We assume those thrift store clothing items are made of hemp fiber and those used cars are extremely efficient electric or hybrid vehicles…)
Michelle Duggar also says they teach their children to be ‘helpers, givers and servers’ — for example, by assigning each of the older children to help raise one of the younger ones and assist in their primary care. Yes, the Duggar family calls this the “buddy system” and apparently, according to the Duggars, this does not mean that 19 kids are too much for two parents on their own. No, it just means the part of the whole purpose of having so many children is to have the older ones serve as free child care for the younger ones.
Apparently, Duggar says the truth of the world NOT being overpopulated is so very real that “other countries” come to their doorstep “asking us to please let their pepole know that they need to have more children because their death rates are outnumbering their birth rates and they’re in crisis.” Duggar did not specify which country were begging for her matriarchal assistance or who those national representatives were.
“I think we are so deceived when we believe [that the world is overpopulated],” Duggar said. “That’s not true, it’s a lie. And so I think the goal needs to be we need to focus on loving people and trying to reach out and make a difference for good in our world.”
Closing out her argument for birthing as many Diggar family children as she can possibly manage in one lifetime, Michelle Duggar quoted Mother Teresa: “‘To say that there are too many children is like saying there are too many flowers.’ Our world needs more joy.”
Somehow, we don’t think having a woman birth out 19 well-fed children — and rake in the cash from her own reality TV show while children starve all over the world — was exactly what Mother Teresa was thinking…
