60 Minutes Creator Don Hewitt Dies

Legendary CBS newsman Don Hewitt died on Wednesday at the age of 86. Don Hewitt, best known as the creator of the Emmy Award winning series 60 Minutes, died of pancreatic cancer at his home in Bridgehampton, NY.

60 Minutes was the first newsmagazine format program on television and won over 70 Emmy Awards and nine Peabody Awards while Don Hewitt was at the helm. Hewitt retired from his involvement with 60 minutes in 2004. Hewitt continued to serve as a consultant and executive producer at large for CBS News.

Don Hewitt is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marilyn Berger, and four children.
