It’s a sad day for the film industry – Pete Postlethwaite, who was in pretty much every good movie you’ve ever seen, has died at age 64 after his second lengthy battle with cancer. Â Postlethwaite defeated testicular cancer in 1990, only to contract another kind of cancer nearly two decades later.
It’s unknown what kind of cancer he was battling this time, but a lot is being made of the fact that he was a heavy smoker, so perhaps it was his lungs. Â He had a lot of great roles in his career, but for my money nothing will ever beat his role as Kobayashi in The Usual Suspects. Â He was a talented actor and he will be sorely missed.
I had been thinking so frequently over the past few days how great he was in “The Town” and “Inception”. I was so hopeful for the coming year, maybe seeing him in another lead role. He had range and could make the most mundane enjoyable – even his bit part in ‘Aeon Flux’ made you feel.
