This season on American Idol 2012, Joshua Ledet has sometimes soared and sometimes fallen a bit flat, and a lot of it has to do with his song choices. Tonight on American Idol, Joshua Ledet had to choose from songs written in the 80’s for his performance. Did he pick the right song for his voice this week?

Every week, I am a bit torn about American Idol 2012 contestant Joshua Ledet. Sometimes I absolutely adore him, sometimes I can take him or leave him. Every now and then, I’m totally bored by him and wish he would go home.

This week on American Idol 80’s night is definitely NOT one of those weeks I want him to go home. Joshua Ledet sang the absolute hell out of “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, which was redone by Simply Red in the 80’s. Honestly, this is not one of my favorite songs and I get a bit sick of it being redone over and over. In this case, however, I had to stop the TiVo to replay Joshua Ledet’s performance to hear it again!

The American Idol 2012 judges apparently loved the performance as much as I did. Hell, even Jimmy Iovine said Joshua Ledet was “with him 100 percent” on “every note of that song he sang.”

Jennifer Lopez was so taken with Ledet’s performance of “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” that she went gospel on him. “Ask and ye shall receive,” Lopez gushed. “We asked for a powerhouse performance, and that’s what we got.” Lopez said his whole performance was just “spectacular.”

Steven Tyler was equally blown away by Joshua Ledet’s performance, asking the 19-year-old in wonder: “How can someone sing like you at your age?” In typical Tyler wacky speak, the rocker told Ledet his performance “wasn’t too much over the top, and it was way over the top,” adding it was a “perfect, beautiful song.”

Randy Jackson, who is usually a little harder to please than Lopez or Tyler, was heavy in his praise of Joshua Ledet on Wednesday night. “It’s very rare that I want to stand up from beginning to end,” Jackson said. “That’s how great that song was.”

Not only was Ledet’s solo performance stellar, he also sounded fantastic in his duet with Jessica Sanchez on “I Knew You Were Waiting for Me” by Aretha Franklin and George Michael. I have to give my vote to the two of them for the best duet of the night.

After a night like this, there is no doubt that it would be crazy to see Josua Ledet in the bottom three this week on the American Idol 2012 elimination results show. We can only hope that the voting public hasn’t suddenly gone insane. So, in answer to the question… hell yes Joshua picked the right song tonight!
