Tonight on American Idol 2012, viewers will watch both a solo and a duet performance from each of the top 8 contestants. This week on American Idol season 11 is all about the 80’s. I can’t wait to see how the contestants will make out on American Idol tonight after seeing this song list. I’m already thinking there are a few really awesome moments in the making — and a few total FAIL moments as well. No matter who sings what tonight, however, I’m still holding fast with my American Idol prediction that this week it will be DeAndre Brackensick or Hollie Cavanagh who go home.
Here is the rundown of the solo songs for American Idol 2012 tonight:
“That’s All” – Genesis
“Time After Time” – Cyndi Lauper
“Wind Beneath My Wings” – Bette Midler
“Flashdance… What a Feeling” – Irene Cara
“If You Don’t Know Me By Now” – Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff
“I Like It” – DeBarge
“How Will I Know” – Whitney Houston
“I Want To Know What Love Is” – Foreigner
Now, of course, the fun is figuring out which song goes with which contestant, right? That is even more of an entertaining puzzle when it comes to figuring out the duets.
“Stop Dragging My Heart Around” – Stevie Nicks & Tom Petty
“Islands in the Stream” – Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton
“I’m So Excited” – The Pointer Sisters
“I Knew You Were Waiting For Me” – Aretha Franklin & George Michael
While there are some classics on the list, and a few really terrific songs, I have to admit I’m a bit disappointed overall in the American Idol 2012 song selection process — as usual. The 80’s was such a fun decade to play with. Surely the American Idol 2012 producers and contestants could have come up with something better than yet another Whitney Houston song, or “Wind Beneath My Wings” — a song so overdone and overplayed that it really makes you want to scream every time you hear it now?
No matter who does “Wind Beneath My Wings,” I just do not see it turning out well. I’m also feeling that the “Flashdance” solo and the “I’m So Excited” duet could both turn out to be a fail unless Jessica Sanchez does them, because the American Idol 2012 judges and voters seem to love her no matter what she does. “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” could turn out totally bland unless the person who gets it really ramps it up.
For the winning side, I know several contestants who could knock it out of the park with Foreigner‘s “I Want To Know What Love Is” and Cyndi Lauper‘s “Time After Time.” Now we just have to wait and see how it all plays out tonight!
