Wednesday night, the American Idol 2012 top 5 will set out to conquer songs from across the pond as they pay tribute to their favorite British artists. The American Idol 2012 top 5 will also sing a second song from the 1960′s.

I find it a bit odd they chose to separate out the two songs into these categories, considering that the musical British Invasion of American really started happening in the mid ’60s. So really, the American Idol 2012 top 5 could very well sing two songs from a ’60s British band like The Beatles and kill two birds with one stone!

Actually though, we have the top 5 song list in our American Idol spoilers post for Wednesday night and the British Invasion section songs will more along the lines of the Bee Gees and Dusty Springfield.

The mentor for the American Idol 2012 top 5 performances show will oddly not be a Brit or someone from a 1960′s group. Instead, the coach on tap for the evening joining Jimmy Iovine will be guitarist Steven Van Zandt from Bruce Springsteen‘s E Street Band. Kind of an odd choice there.
