Wednesday on American Idol 2012, the top 5 sang for their lives in hopes of making it to the top 4. With only a few weeks to go before the American Idol 2012 finals, every song choice counts and every performance could be their last.
For the American Idol 2012 top 5 performances on Wednesday night, the remaining contestants were first asked to perform a classic song from the 1960’s. Then they were tasked with selecting a British pop song from across the pond to perform.

American Idol 2012 Top 5: 1960’s Song
Hollie Cavanagh — “River Deep, Mountain High” by Ike and Tina Turner
Judges: The judges liked it and Steven Tyler says it is the first time he has ever really heard her. Jennifer Lopez says Hollie really attacked the song and bit into the words. Randy Jackson also says he loved it and Hollie dug into the song and wore it out.

Phillip Phillips — “The Letter” by The Box Tops
Judges: The reviews from the judges are a bit mixed. Although they like it, they poke at it a bit too. Randy Jackson says Phillip made the song his own, but it lacked a bit in melody. Jennifer Lopez says she didn’t know the original and didn’t know how to compare it, but Phillip is compelling to watch perform and she wants to applaud him. Steven Tyler says he misses the melody but Phillip still got away with the song and he’s original.

Skylar Laine — “Fortunate Son” by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Judges: Steven says music loves Skylar as much as she loves music and he loved everything about the performance. Jennifer says Skylar is a natural and she’s fearless, attacking every song. Randy says he thinks CCR would be proud of her for another great performance; she was totally comfortable and in her element.

Jessica Sanchez — “Proud Mary” by Ike and Tina Turner
Judges: Steven says it was another great performance, Jessica did it again; she stepped it up and and went with it. Jennifer says she forgets Jessica is only 16, she’s so grown up; she was a bit of Tina and a bit of Beyonce. Randy says it was an okay performance for him but Jessica tried to slay the biggest dragon of the night and it wasn’t quite perfect.

Joshua Ledet — “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” by The Temptations
Judges: Steven says Joshua is so fine and he is so talented, he’s one of the top Idol singers of all time. Jennifer says she enjoys it every single time and Joshua is like a throwback to another era. Randy says Joshua could bring R&B back to fashion and he loves the look.

American Idol 2012 Top 5: British Pop Song
Hollie Cavanagh — “Bleeding Love” by Leona Lewis
Judges: Steven says she nailed it and he loved it; she did what she does so well tonight. Jennifer says it was breathtaking and Hollie was amazing and maybe even surprised herself. Randy says it was an interesting song for her and it was a big song; Hollie has been the dark horse all season and both her performances tonight were great.

Phillip Phillips — “Time of the Season” by The Zombies
Judges: Steven says he is glad Phillip went with the melody this time and it was good. Jennifer says it was mellow and a good job. Randy says it was more relaxed and Phillip did well with singing the melody; it was a nice preformance.

Skylar Laine — “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me”
Judges: Steven says he loves the song choice and Skylar made it modern it worked. Jennifer says it she can tell Skylar wants to win and she is winning the hearst of America. Randy says Skylar is peaking at the right time and it was a great job.

Jessica Sanchez — “You Are So Beautiful” by Joe Cocker
Judges: Steven says Jessica is going to be number one and she really showed America again how fabulous her voice is. Jennifer says it was great and reminded her of when she sang Whitney Houston. Randy says Jessica is at the top of the pack and she is so pro and an an unbelievable talent. Huge, huge props from the judges all around.

Joshua Ledet — “To Love Somebody” by the Bee Gees
Judges: Yet another standing ovation from the judges for Joshua. Steven says Joshua is just such a great artist and this would have been a hit song on a record. Jennifer says he is one of the best singers in fify years and he is so passionate and really deserves his accolades. Rany says wow he is amazed Joshua had never heard the song before he rehearsed it for this and he is one of the best singers ever on this show.
