American Idol 2012 Top 7: Phillip Phillips – ‘Give a Little More’ by Maroon 5 (VIDEO)

On the American Idol 2012 top 7 performance show this week, Phillip Phillips selected “Give a Little More” by Maroon 5 for his song choice. Phillip Phillips has been a strong competitor throughout the competition, but his place among the favorites this year has been slipping a bit the past few weeks.

Jimmy Iovine liked the song choice for Phillip Phillips this week, but he didn’t seem like a totally huge fan of it, partially because it just wasn’t very exciting. Guest mentor Akon suggested there should be more piano in the song and Jimmy thought that was a good idea. Neither of them seem totally invested in the song choice though.

The judges are disappointed in the performance by Phillip Phillips for the most part. Jennifer Lopez aid she felt it “was a little bit underwhelming for what you always do, maybe it’s the song choice, it wasn’t everything that I know you can give us.”

Steven Tyler was also spare with the praise, but did say the more Phillip is “singing melody and hitting lines, you evolve like Steve McQueen or Johnny Cash.”

Randy Jackson said he agreed with Jennifer that it “was not much of a wow type of performance.
