Up first to perform on American Idol 2012 Wednesday night was country singer Skylar Laine. The cute, saucy girl with the heavy twang chose “Didn’t You Know How Much I Love You” by American Idol alumni Kelly Pickler.

Jimmy Iovine was very pleased with Skylar’s choice of song, but he disagreed with her idea to use the guitar. Guest mentor Akon was also against the idea. They did not want it to get in the way of Skylar shining on the song.

The judges were thrilled on the whole with the performance across the board. Randy Jackson said the performance proved Skylar was “definitely back” and said this was the kind of song she should do. “I felt you for the first time,” Randy Jackson said, “it was crazy hot, it was almost picture perfect with the pitch.

Jennifer Lopez also loved the performance, telling Skylar it “sounded like it was in perfect pitch, you nailed it, we felt it, it was a perfect way to start the show.” Steven Tyler, being his usual slightly weird self, said of the performance: “The crows may crow bu the hens deliver the goods, just great.”
