American Idol Judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez Out

American Idol 2012 judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez have confirmed they will not return for the American Idol 2013 season. Although it has long been suspected Jennifer Lopez would not return for another season as an American Idol judge, Steven Tyler’s depature comes as something of a surprise to the show’s fans.

“After some long…hard…thoughts…I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress ‘American Idol’ before she boils my rabbit,” Tyler said in a press statement earlier this week on his depature as an American Idol judge. “I strayed from my first love, AEROSMITH, and I’m back – but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band.”

“IDOL was over-the-top fun, and I loved every minute of it,” Tyler added.

Jennifer Lopez confirmed her exit while speaking to American Idol host Ryan Seacrest on his radio show, just a a few days after Tyler announced his. ”I honestly feel the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that you do, and you have to pay attention to that, too. I could keep doing ‘Idol’ for the rest of my life, but that would be giving up a bunch of other things,” Lopez said. “I feel like we had an amazing run.”

American Idol judge Randy Jackson, who is the only original judge still standing on the show, is also rumored to be leaving before American Idol 2013 kicks off. If that proves to be true, there will have to be a whole new American Idol 2013 judges panel before the new season begins.

American Idol 2013 is due to premiere on FOX in September, which does not leave the show’s producers with very long to find new American Idol judges and send them hurling across the country to find the next set of Idol contestants.
