American Idol winner Scotty McCreery may have a huge recording contract, a platinum album and a brand new Academy of Country Music award for Best New Artist of the Year, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t still understand the value of a good education. Despite all his success, 18-year-old Scotty McCreery is still heading off to college at North Carolina State University in the fall.
Like father, like son in American Idol winner Scotty McCreery’s case. The country music singer’s father also went to North Carolina State University, a college of about 34,000 students. According to the university’s Director of Admissions, having McCreery on campus should be an interesting experience.
“I don’t know of anybody coming in so well initially,” NCSU admissions director Thomas Griffin told Entertainment Weekly. Most 18-year-olds don’t have the kind of exposure that someone like Mr. McCreery has,” he acknowledges.”
American Idol winner Scotty McCreery plans to continue touring around his school schedule. The North Carolina native told People he was accepted to four colleges, but ultimately he seems to have decided to keep close to his family in North Carolina.
