U2 lead singer Bono went under the knife for emergency back surgery on Friday after injuring himself preparing for the next leg of the band’s 360 Degrees world tour. As a result of the injury and surgery, some U2 tour dates will have to be postponed.

“Bono has today undergone emergency back surgery for an injury sustained during tour preparation training,” a message posted to U2.com reads. “He was admitted to a specialist neurosurgery unit in a Munich hospital, and is under the care of neurosurgeon Prof. Dr. Jorg Tonn and Dr. Muller Wohlfahrt. Bono will spend the next few days there, before returning home [to Ireland] to recuperate.”
The band’s next tour date in Salt Lake City on June 3rd has been postponed. It is not known yet what other dates of the U2 tour may be affected, although it is possible the band may not make their headlining gig at the Glastonbury Festival on June 25. “Once his condition has been assessed further, a statement will be made regarding the impact on forthcoming tour dates,” the message on the band’s website says.
U2 manager Paul McGuinness said the band will “make plans to reinstate the dates as soon as possible” and urged fans to keep check on the website for more information.
