They may finally be engaged, but Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are not in any hurry to have that big wedding any time soon. Speaking to reporters at a Cannes Film Festival conference on Tuesday, Brad Pitt says he and his fiancée do not have a wedding date in mind yet, despite some rumors to the contrary.
“We actually, really and truly, have no date,” Brad Pitt said of his engagement to long-time parter Angelina Jolie. “It’s just something that makes sense to us, and certainly datewise, it’s just a rumor.” If the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie wedding should happen soon, they would sort of be breaking a promise they once made to their gay fans.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt infamously swore at one point they would not get married until everyone in the U.S. had equal marriage rights and gay couples would also have the right to marry nationwide. Pitt says he and his bride-to-be still have hopes that may happen.
“We’re still hoping that we can figure out marriage equality in the states before that date,” Pitt said.
According to Us Weekly, it was Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s children who pushed them into getting engaged at at last, finally getting Pitt to convince Jolie to take the plunge. An unidentified source allegedly said the couple’s 10-year-old adopted son Maddox was the mastermind behind an Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt wedding plan.
“They needed to give the kids one thing in their life that is normal, and they are asking for this. [Brad] said they should do it for them,” the source reportedly said.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie met on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2005 while Pitt was still married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston.
