Musician Bret Michaels, who has had diabetes since the age of six, is joining the American Diabetes Association as their poster boy for the disease.  Their newest awareness campaign, Stop Diabetes, is a series of public service announcements that will feature Michaels as the “Face of Diabetes.”  The hope is that Michaels’ celebrity will get people to stop seeing diabetes as a disease that only afflicts the fat and lazy, and realize that even heavy metal has-beens who have turned to reality TV can be diabetic.  This is actually a really good message, as millions of people have diabetes and don’t even suspect they have it, and it kills nearly a quarter of a million Americans every year.
