The next Batman movie release date has finally been announced! Warner Bros. has scheduled the sequel to The Dark Knight for July 20, 2012. Director Christopher Nolan will helm the film, which is still untitled.
No official casting news has been announced yet for the Batman 3 film. However, Christian Bale previously stated he has signed on for a third film. Other main characters are also expected to return for the new installment of the series. Emily Blunt is also rumored to be interested, possibly for the role of Catwoman.
Little is known about the plot of the upcoming Batman sequel, although Nolan has said the villain in the film will not be Mr. Freeze. Comments from Nolan about the upcoming movie have implied that this may be the last Batman film he takes on.
“I’m very excited about the end of the film, the conclusion, and what we’ve done with the characters.” Nolan told the Los Angeles Times last month. “The key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story,†Nolan said. “And in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story.”
The Nightmare on Elm Street 2010 remake is on track to take home the top spot in the weekend box office with a projected $35 million or more in ticket sales. A Nightmare on Elm Street opened the weekend with a sold $15 million in sales on Friday night alone.
The Nightmare on Elm Street Freddy Krueger slasher movie remake is almost certain to take the weekend box office at this point. All that remains to be seen is by how much it will gut the competition in ticket sales.
How to Train Your Dragon will likely land in second place this week, projected to gross another $11 million or so by the end of the weekend. Rounding out the top five, Date Night, The Losers and The Back-Up Plan will probably be battling it out, but it’s a bit too close to call which film will end up as the leader of the pack.
Lindsay Lohan is out of control and it’s getting so bad, we’re actually starting to agree with her father Michael Lohan that she needs a major intervention! Just days after Lohan was questioned by police over the alleged theft of a $35,000 Rolex watch, the young actress has been fired from an upcoming movie role and allegedly assaulted her ex-girlfriend Samantha Ronson.
Now that’s some serious Lindsanity!
The Other Side writer/director David Michaels says Lindsay Lohan was fired from the film because the film team “simply chose to move on” to a different actress. TMZ.com, however, reports a source connected to the film said Lohan was not “bankable” and investors didn’t feel they could rely on her.
That’s only the tip of the Lohan madness iceberg this week though. This past weekend, Lindsay Lohan reportedly assaulted her ex-girlfriend Samantha Ronson at a club in Los Angeles when she threw a glass at her head.
Ronson was reportedly Dj-ing at the Trousdale nightclub in L.A. when Lindsay Lohan walked up to her and threw a glass at the back of her head. “Glass flew everywhere and Samantha looked really shaken up,” a witness reportedly told Radar Online. “The club owner asked Lindsay to leave and was overheard saying she’ll never come back.”
Lohan is lucky she didn’t end up in handcuffs. The way she’s going, she’ll be even luckier if she doesn’t end up in the morgue! We think Michael Lohan is one wacky asshat of a guy, but in one thing we have to agree he’s probably right. Lindsay Lohan needs help whether she likes it or not.
James Cameron‘s sci-fi epic Avatar has crushed the North American DVD sales record, selling 4 million DVDs and 2.7 Blu-rays in just four days. Sales of the Avatar DVD and Blu-ray have already brought in over $130 million.
The previous record holder for DVD sales in American and Canada was held by The Dark Knight in 2008. Avatar, which features heavy environmentalism themes, was released on DVD April 22nd to coincide with Earth Day. 20th Century Fox says Avatar is the fastest-selling Blu-ray ever.
Avatar, which reportedly cost over $300 million to make, is already the highest grossing movie of all time, although some argue the film’s earnings were not adjusted for inflation.
James Cameron says Avatar will be re-released this summer with an additional six minutes of footage. Plans for the Avatar sequel are already underway. Cameron says the film will focus on the ocean of the planet Pandora.
The 3D version of Avatar has not yet been released on DVD or Blu-ray, but Fox says it is on the way sometime in the near future.

The release of M. Night Shyamalan‘s The Last Airbender will not be delayed to convert the film to 3D. Despite the decision to convert the movie to 3D, the film will premiere as scheduled on July 2.
The success of James Cameron‘s Avatar in 3D has led to a slew of recent 3D film conversions, including Clash of the Titans and Priest. According to MTV.com, Paramount is jumping on the bandwagon to convert M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender to 3D as well.
Shyamalan reportedly wanted to convert the The Last Airbender to 3D early on, but had to convince Paramount it was worth the trouble. After testing out the film in 3D, the studio apparently decided to give it a go.
The Last Airbender is a live-action rework of the animated Nickelodeon series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The film features Noah Ringer as a boy who uses the elements to battle off evil forces. The movie also stars Dev Patel, Nicola Peltz and Jackson Rathbone.
We hope the 3D conversion of The Last Airbender will be more successful than the one for Clash of the Titans. From the trailer, we think the film has promise as a 3D movie, but we’ll have to wait to see it in theaters to judge the full effect.
Despite foul language of the worst kind and a ridiculous plotline, the comic book-inspired movie Kick-Ass failed to kick much in the way of ass at the weekend box office. Normally, for some insane reason, films with nasty language spewing in all directions and a complete lack of a believable plot do extremely well at the box office, so we were actually a bit surprised Kick-Ass fell short in the film’s premiere in theaters.
How To Train Your Dragon was almost the big dog at the weekend box office this time around, barely losing out to Kick-Ass for the top spot. Earlier estimates actually put Kick-Ass in second place, but more recent reports show the film barely squeaking ahead. Not that either film took home a huge load in the rankings.
How To Train Your Dragon brought in around $19.6 million based on box office estimates, with Kick-Ass taking about $19.8 million. The numbers were so close, so Kick-Ass barely pulled out a last minute victory and it was kind of a pathetic win.
Tina Fey and Steve Carell’s Date Night placed in third at the weekend box office top five, followed by Death at a Funeral in fourth and Clash of the Titans in fifth.
