The 2012 Oscar nomination have been announced and two beautiful movies honoring the early days of film-making lead the pack in being honored The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Martin Scorsese‘s Hugo received 11 2012 Academy Award nominations, while The Artist received 10 nods. While most of the nominations this year came as no surprise, there were a few notable snubs from the Academy voters.

Golden Globe winner The Artist runs a very close second with 10 nominations, including nods for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress. Although both films were expected to be highly honored with nominations, it was a surprise to some critics that Hugo managed to squeak out slightly more nominations than The Artist. Strong odds seemed to be in favor that the reverse would be true and The Artist was going to be the top dog at the 2012 Academy Award nominations.

Set in the 1960s, the Moonrise Kingdom trailer gives us a glimpse into the tale of two 12-year-old kids (Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward) who fall in love and make a secret pact to run away together into the wilderness. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Elton John said he was very impressed with Justin Timberlake’s portrayel of him in his “This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore” video, calling it “superb.” After seeing the David LaChapelle directed video, John said Timberlake was at the top of his list to play him in an upcoming biopic.
Taylor Lautner has been the subject of rumors about his sexual orientation since the young star first appeared in the Twilight film series. However, despite the persistent gossip, the Breaking Dawn star has never publicly come out as gay. As for the Taylor Lautner People magazine cover that hit the Internet on MondayÂ featuring the hunky young star proclaiming he is coming out, a rep for the mag says it is just a Photoshopped fake.
In a rather nasty little joke, some Photoshop-happy clown decided to paste Taylor Lautner’s face on a faked People cover featuring the Twilight star proclaiming himself as “Out & Proud.” The tagline for the cover story reads: “Tired of rumors, the Twilight star opens up about his decision to finally come out. ‘I’m more liberated, and happier than I’ve ever been.'”
Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol is the big winner of the holiday box office take this year, beating out runner-up Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows withÂ an estimated $42.2 million in ticket sales over the four-day holiday weekend.

M:I:4 reportedly cost around $145 million to make, but is already on track to beat the total income of 2006’s Million: Impossible III, which took in over $134 million in domestic sales and almost $264 million overseas.
