Chinese musician with no arms wins final of China’s Got Talent

I’m normally pretty cynical about the way contestants’ sob stories are presented on TV talent shows. It’s usually a sad, sad tale about a absent father or an alcoholic mother, a life in poverty or a brother with autism. And while I hate feeling like I’m being manipulated to pity someone, I don’t mind it at all when the story is presented as an inspiration. Musician Liu Wei lost both his arms in an accident when he was 10, but has since learned to play the piano with his feet. He’s so good at singing and playing that he not only qualified for China’s Got Talent, he won the whole competition. This has to be seen to be believed – here he is performing in the final with “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt, and if this doesn’t stir your heart, you must be dead from the neck down.
