Christina Aguilera messes up Star Spangled Banner

Okay, it’s been all over the internet for two days – Christina royally messed up the “o’er the ramparts we watched” line from the national anthem when she performed the song at the Super Bowl on Sunday, declaring, “what so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last”… something.

At that point she realized what she’d done, and I think the last part came out as a combination of “twilight’s last weaning” and “twilight’s last reaming.”  Either way, interesting interpretation.  A lot of people have said that there’s no excuse, given that (A) it’s the frickin Super Bowl and (B) Christina’s been performing this song publicly since she was seven and should know the words by now.  But really, if you’re going to sing it as often as she does, you’re bound to mess it up at some point.  She just picked a really, really bad day to do it.

  1. Oh for God’s sake, who cares? People mess up.. that’s what makes us human. So she messed up. Big Goddamn deal. She sounded good and she put her heart into it. If you don’t want mistakes, hire robots to do everything. Jeesh.

  2. Normally i would agree with the first response….BUT this is the national anthem. That was the time she should not have messed up…

  3. Yes, it is the national anthem. But seriously, even if she has sang it a lot, she does not sing it everyday. Pair that with the fact that she’s singing at the Superbowl and it’s understandable. She still probably gets nervous. I invite anyone who is condemning her to do what she did. People make mistakes, you still knew it was the anthem. God isn’t going to smite her. There are bigger things to raise a hooplah about.
