Actor Corey Haim acquired over 550 prescription pills in the months before his death, California Attorney General Jerry Brown said in a press statement Tuesday. Haim died on March 10 after collapsing at his mother’s apartment. No official cause of death has yet been determined, but drugs are suspected to have been involved in Haim’s death.

Corey Haim reported shopped around with various doctors to obtain over 550 prescription pills in the two months before his death, according to Brown. The medications acquired by Haim included Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Soma. Haim appeared to have used up to 20 doctors, a half dozen pharmacies and at least one alias to acquire pills over the last year. Four prescription bottles for Haim were found in the apartment where he collapsed.
Investigators tracked down Corey Haim’s pill acquisition using a voluntary database that monitors prescriptions. Haim may have also obtained at least one illegal prescription for Oxycontin linked to a drug ring using stolen identities and prescription pads.
An autopsy on Haim’s body revealed he was suffering from pneumonia and an enlarged heart at the time of his death. Toxicology test results are expected later this month.
We just hope the information being discovered in connection to Haim’s death will shine a bright light on what seems to be a growing plague of prescription drug abuse in Hollywood and beyond.
