The whole season has come down to this night, the Dancing With the Stars All Stars finale. For the first time in the history of DWTS, three ladies will be vying for the mirror ball trophy in the finale tonight. Kelly Monaco, Melissa Rycroft and Shawn Johnson have all earned their place in the Dancing With the Stars finale with their scores from the judges and, more importantly, strong fan support. Now they will have to perform one more time for the judges and then wait nervously to find out who was ranked highest by the voters and who won Dancing With the Stars All Stars 2012.
While predictions for the Dancing With the Stars All Stars winners have been leaning toward Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough, nothing is certain until the official results are announced. There are plenty of reasons why Kelly Monaco or Melissa Rycroft could still emerge as the person who won Dancing With the Stars 2012 All Stars. So don’t be sure yet you know what is going to happen tonight!
Will your favorites walk away with the title tonight and the coveted mirror ball trophy? Who won Dancing With the Stars All Stars and can lay claim to the honor of being the best of the best on DWTS? RECAP: Here we go! The Dancing With the Stars All Stars finale has begun and we will soon find out who the winners will be! First we have a whole lot of filler to get through before that happens, of course, so let’s get going!
The show tonight begins with a dazzling group performance from this season’s fabulous cast celebrities.
Next up we have a repeat performance from Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough of their freestyle dance from last night at the request of the judges followed by some recapping of previous performances this season.
Later in the evening, the remaining three couples will have to do a final ‘instant dance’ for the judges. They will now pick the theme and style for the dance and have to put together choreography for the routine as the show continues.
- Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy pick ‘Cat & Mouse Jive’
- Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani pick ‘Life is a Highway Samba’
- Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough pick ‘Respect Cha Cha’
Time for more guest performances to kill time while the finalists work on their ‘instant dance’ choreography. First up are Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas giving a rather lackluster performance (her fault, not his). They are followed by Pamela Anderson and Tristan MacManus with a rather more entertaining (and way sexier) dance.
More guest performances from previously eliminated contestants up now with Helio Castroneves and Chelsie Hightower. I miss watching Helio in action, he is a hot one on the dance floor! Awwh, from sexy to adorable we now have Drew Lachey and Anna Trebunskaya with his daughter joining them on the dance floor. Too cute!
After some backstage confessionals, we have the much anticipated “Gangnam Style” group dance. This is way too entertaining and I’ll bring you the video just as soon as I can get an upload for you.
Still waiting for the ‘instant dance’ performances and so we have yet another guest dance with Joey Fatone and Kym Johnson doing a fun time traveling piece. They even have younger versions of themselves joining them for the performance. Very entertaining, but I’m ready for the finalists to take the stage! But no, we have yet another formerly eliminated couple to perform for us with Sabrina Bryan and Louis Van Amstel steaming up the dance floor now. Oh and now we have a Team “Call Me Maybe” dance. Yay and stuff.
Oh fun, it’s Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy back on DWTS again. I know she is not the best dancer, but she is always entertaining to watch and this time is no exception. After them, we have Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd doing it Bollywood style. Gilles was my favorite guy this season, so it’s nice to get to see him hit the floor again.
Taking up more time until the top 3 return is my second favorite guy contestant, Apolo Anton Ohno, and his pro partner Karina Smirnoff. Then we have Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke taking a spin across the floor. I’m feeling very nostalgic at this point, but also very, very ready to get through the instant dance performances and find out who is going to win this thing!
Thank goodness! It is finally time to start the ‘instant dance’ portion of the evening. The top 3 finalists will take the dance floor to try to land one more perfect score from the judges.
Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy – ‘Cat & Mouse Jive
First up will be Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy doing the Jive. As always, this dance is vastly improved by the hot guy taking his shirt off for the dance. Thank you Val!
Judges: Len says Kelly has been a revelation the whole season. She came out really clean and went for it. Bruno says they have the energy of two randy rabbits and there was something going on there. But Kelly was off balance at times during the dance. The Jive is not easy to do. Carrie Ann teases that any mistakes were probably caused by body oil. She is very impressed it was an instant dance. They were fantastic and won her heart and the audience.
Scores: Len – 9.5, Bruno – 9.5, Carrie Ann – 9.5 = 28.5 of 30 (Total score combined with last night: 87.5 out of 90)
I have to note that nosy Brooke just had to go after Kelly and Val about their ‘relationship’ again. Val says they share an unconditional love, while Kelly pipes up that it is just such an awesome friendship.
Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani – ‘Life is a Highway Samba’
Now we have Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani up with their Samba. Unfortunately they are doing the same dance they did last night, just kind of a slower version. The music choice for this is just stupid, by the way. No one should Samba to “Life is a Highway”. What were the DWTS people thinking?
Judges: Len says the Samba interpretation just wasn’t quite as good as last night, but they have been a great pleasure to watch. Bruno says Melissa is a South American siren, slinky but with rock and roll. The music was not Latin enough, but she did what she could with it. Carrie Ann says she has shown them grace all season long. They have been stellar, but they rushed the dance a bit. Carrie thinks doing the same dance was a big disadvantage for Kelly for the ‘instant dance’ portion of the night. She also thinks they rushed the music a bit.
Scores: Len – 9.5, Bruno – 9.5, Carrie Ann – 9.5 = 28.5 of 30 (Total combined with last night’s scores: 88.5 out of 90)
Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough – ‘Respect Cha Cha’
For the last dance from the finalists for the evening, we have Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough performing the Cha-Cha. Derek apparently really wanted to get the Jive instead. He is really emotional about his time spent with Shawn on the show this season.
Judges: Len says Derek made terrific choreography and it was fantastic. Bruno says they are going out with a bang in the grand finale. Carrie Ann says it was amazing and Shawn has been a star since the beginning. Perfection! (Not perfect no, but the best of the three, yes.)
Scores: Len – 10, Bruno – 10, Carrie Ann – 10 = 30 of 30 (Total combined with last night’s scores: 87 out of 30)
With those scores, Shawn and Derek are now in third place in the judges’ scores. Who won Dancing With the Stars All Stars will come down to the fan votes though, so those scores are just placeholders for now.
The first results are about to be announced and we will find out which couple is going to be eliminated first on the Dancing With the Stars All Stars finale.
Third place goes to…
Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy!
The newly blinged out ‘super’ mirror ball trophy is ready to be handed out to the Dancing With the Stars All Stars champion. Just one more commercial break and we’ll have the winner for you!
OMG! The winner has been announced and the mass predictions for who would win tonight are………………………………………………………………………… WRONG!
Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani!
Wow, isn’t that just amazing that the only finalist who did not have a Dancing With the Stars title won? Just astounding how that happened…

An “insider” called me with the name of the winner! WOW, I am REALLY surprised. I never would have thought. Well, going to watch the rest of the show anyway.
YAY WAY TO GO MELISSA all the dancers were amazing but she really brings electricity and personality to the dance floor… thru injuries or any other bumps in the road she put her hole heart into every dance… the voters chose right way to go toni and melissa
Ironic that the winner isn’t a star at all but a game show contestant. We throw that term “star” around a little loosely these days.
RIGGED!!!!!!!! They were the only ones who hadn’t won!! -_-
Shawn and Derek should have won hands down but they didn’t :/ wouldn’t call the show rigged but Melissa got sympathy votes because both her and Tony never won a MBT! I do live Melissa but she should. Not have won
Very disappointed….. I am a fan of kelly monaco but if she didnt win I trully believed shawn should have won. She was awesome.
Congratulations Melissa and Tony! Well deserved.
Shawn should have won!!!!!! Melissa is a good dancer, but shawn is an amazing dancer!!! It was just sympathy and the judges biased love for Melissa that gave her the trophy. It’s a shame. Shawn blew me away every week with her talent.
Tony has never win before i always felt so bad for him so a huge congradulations!!! ive wanted him to win for seasons now! him and anna
So glad to see that nice guys do sometimes finish first! So well deserved and couldn’t be happier for them. 😀
RIGGED!!! No way Melissa a better dancer than SHAWN. They didn’t deserve the MB trophy – they do deserve the Pity/Sympathy Trophy. This is a competition not a pity competition. There’s a reason why you haven’t won before!! The show is a big SHAM!!! There should be a dance off!! Wait a minute, there was one – the Instant Dance! And who killed it? SHAWN and DEREK!! Enough said!!!
