I don’t know what Denis meant. My husband stuck up for him and said he didn’t meant it like that. All I know is I have a cousin who has amazing parents and he is autistic and it is very sad. He is 14 now with hormones raging and is getting stronger. He had to wear hockey equiptment so he wouldn’t hurt himself while beating himself up. He is a wonderful loving child who suffers. If Denis didn’t mean what he said, he should make darn sure he corrects this. Just awful!!

I was born in 1961. Why is it I do not remember any “Autistic” kids in my 20 some years of school. Ridlin was rampant for rotten kids in my day, next came ADD, all seudonyms for brats. Face it kids today do not leave there rooms, no way to expel energy, so medicate them

Whoever “Stephanie” is who made the first comment: You are a total idiot. Read the Denis Leary book. I have a son with Asperger’s and the stuff he says in the book is hurtful garbage. Stop defending the meathead.

You are a bunch of idiots. Why don’t you try reading what Denis wrote instead of relying on another bad journalist to tell you.

He said that people who look for a low-level diagnosis of autism in their kids (WHO ARE NOT REALLY AUTISTIC BUT BADLY PARENTED) are jokes. You honestly don’t realize that there are so many parents out there who think, “hey my kid’s a screw up” and instead of smackin the kid on the a## and telling them to straighten up, they look for a reason why their kid can’t. Believe me, MOST parents know when it’s autism and when it’s not (I have 2 autistic nephews – we knew before they hit pre-school age). Denis says “canâ€™t compete academically” which means they are in school and not doing what they are supposed to. The fact that some parents are too lazy to accept their role as parent has led to the BS ADD and ADHD diagnosies (given out mostly to boys), because they aren’t able to act the way their namby-pamby teachers who don’t know discipline from doorknobs can’t get Johnny to sit still. So they give him some Ritalin. Denis doesn’t want the kids who truly are autistic to suffer and lose funding when non-attentive aholes start getting Johnny mis-diagnosed.

Next time, try doing some research.
