Fashion director Vittorio Missoni, son of the company’s founder, is missing and feared dead after the small plane he was traveling on disappeared. The flight vanished off the Venezuelan coast on Friday with four passengers and two crew members on board.

Vittorio Missoni, 58, is the eldest son of Italian fashion legend Ottavio Missoni, who founded the label in 1953. The other passengers on the missing flight include his wife, Maurizia Castiglioni, and two of their Italian friends. The two crew members were both from Venezuala.

The flight took off from Los Roques, a popular vacation spot, at about 11:00AM on Friday and was headed to Simon Biolivar International Airport in Caracas. The plane was declared missing around 11:30AM.

“The Missoni family has been informed by the Venezuelan consulate that Vittorio Missoni and his wife are missing, but we don’t know any more,” Maddalena Aspes, a spokesman for Missioni, said in a press statement.

Searchers on Friday failed to locate any clues to the whereabouts of the missing plane and passengers. A special ocean search vessel was deployed to assist in the search on Saturday, according to the Italian news agency ANSA.
