Legendary Broadway star Bernadette Peters is guest-starring on NBC’s new hit series Smash next Monday and we have a first look for you! In this spectacular Bernadette Peters Smash video clip, the musical maven belts out a stunning rendition of “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” from Gypsy.
Smash is strangely addictive and as much as I feel ashamed to be enjoying a show with former American Idol runner-up Katherine McPhee as one of the leads, I can’t help myself. Somewhere in me there is a Broadway diva wannabee screaming to get out and I’m in love. I even like Katherine McPhee in it (shudder).
Now NBC has hit me right in the gut and made me hate to love Smash even more by bringing on the uber fantastic Bernadette Peters as a guest star on next week’s episode of Smash. Peters will play Ivy’s (Megan Hilty) mother Leigh, and frankly, she blows Hilty and Katherine McPhee out of the water during her performance from Gypsy.
Then again, who doesn’t Bernadette Peters blow out of the water when she sings anything? I was lucky enough to see her play the Witch in Sondheim‘s Into the Woods, and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my young life.
Speaking of Bernadette Peters and Smash, the Broadway legend will be presenting the producers of Smash with a special honor during the GLAAD Media Awards on March 24 in new York. The GLAAD Media Awards “recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives.”
Bernadette Peters will present Craig Zadan and Nel Meron with the Vito Russo Award at the event. The award recognizes “an openly LGBT media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting LGBT equality.”
