Florida Gators star defensive end Carlos Dunlap was arrested on Tuesday on DUI charges after being found asleep behind the wheel by Gainesville police. Dunlap, 20, reportedly refused to submit to a breathalyzer test on scene and was taken to jail for suspicion of DUI.
Carlos Dunlap was discovered asleep behind the wheel of his car around 3:25 AM on Tuesday. Police found Dunlap after receiving complaints regarding a reckless driver near the Florida campus.
Dunlap, a Junior defensive end for the Florida Gators, was the defensive MVP of last year’s championship game and is considered a top NFL draft pick. Dunlap was expected to be a key player in the Southeastern Conference title game against Alabama on Saturday. After the arrest, his appearance in Saturday’s game is now in question.
A spokesman for the Florida Gators released a statement Monday morning saying the organization was aware of the incident but withheld further comment. A press announcement regarding the incident is expected Tuesday afternoon.
