Hogwarts lovers can now buy Harry Potter e-books online at last. All seven books in the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling are now available in digital format. Although the Harry Potter e-books can now be found on sites like Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com, readers will have to click through to J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore.com website to actually purchase the digital novels.
“For years our customers have loved reading Harry Potter books in print, and have made them the best-selling print book series on Amazon.com,” said Russ Grandinetti, Amazon’s vice president of Kindle content. “We’re excited that Harry Potter fans worldwide are now able to read J.K. Rowling’s fantastic books on their Kindles and free Kindle reading apps.”
“By offering the NOOK editions of this popular series, long-time fans and first-time readers can experience the magic of Harry Potter in a new, exciting way and read what they love, anywhere they like,” offered Jim Hilt, Vice President of ebooks for Barnes & Noble.
The bookstore section of J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore.com website finally opened for business on Tuesday. Fans of the Harry Potter books can now buy them in English U.S. and U.K. digital and audiobook formats from anywhere in the world. More language options, such as French, Italian, Spanish and German, will be available soon.
J.K. Rowling announced she would be releasing the Harry Potter e-books versions in a press statement last June when Pottermore.com launched. The website provides a free “online experience” for Potter fans to continue to enjoy the world of Harry Potter. The site is currently undergoing a limited beta test, but is expected to open fully to the public in April.
“I wanted to give something back to the fans that have followed Harry so devotedly over the years, and to bring the stories to a new digital generation,” the British author said last year in a video announcement on YouTube. “I hope fans and those new to Harry will have as much fun helping to shape Pottermore as I have.”
The Harry Potter ebooks are in EPUB format and can be accessed on dedicated e-readers such as Kindle Fire, Barnes & Noble’s Nook, Sony’s Reader and the Google Play, as well as tablets, computers and mobile smartphones. The individual Harry Potter e-books range in price form $7.99 to $9.99, or a full set can be purchased for$57.54. The Harry Potter audiobooks can be purchased at prices from $29.99 to $44.99 for individual books, or $242.94 for the full series.
