Hurricane Ike: The Missing Have Names; Ike Is Missing From The Mainstream Media

10/05/08: The stories of some who died…and some who are still missing.

UPDATE: 10/2/08- 3 Weeks After Hurricane Ike, The Search For Bodies Finally Begins
Listen to Lan Lamphere of Oklahomaexpeditions.com and Snarkfood discuss the missing from Hurricane Ike. Podcast Is Here.
No newsflash for the hundreds of thousands of people that Hurricane Ike victimized, but Hurricane Ike is virtually gone from mainstream media coverage. It has been replaced by the huge bailout of our entire financial system.

UPDATE: 9/28/08 Over 400 people are still missing from the Texas Coast nearly two weeks after the storm devastated much of the area. The mainstream media has forgotten them. Their families, desperate, have not. Here’s an update video.

Snarkfood promised to continue to follow the story– and today we are listing the names of the people we’ve been able to determine are missing. These names come directly from those who are desperately searching for them. It is by NO means a complete list.

The mainstream media’s refusal to even report a ballpark number of those who are missing is shameful, and high-visibility (celebrity) attention to the problem is ZERO. In defense of the celebrities, they, along with the rest of America are not being told the story.
So we will. Here are the names of some of our American brothers and sisters who’ve been missing since Hurricane Ike hit.
The following have been listed as missing or otherwise unaccounted for by their family members on the ABC 13 (Houston area) Hurricane Ike Missing Persons Locater, and the KHOU forums. Screw the media blackout.

Watch the video. Read the list. Give if you can. www.redcross.org

  1. thank you for all the info over ike and the missing… i am from orange county (in texas) and still in the dark over what is really going on.. everyone seems to have 0 coverage of the area and our community is living it every day.. no one (even in this area) is telling the real details and listing the missing.. thank you and keep up the good work.. i tell everyone who will listen to check the site as i do daily for any new info and/or names…thanks again

  2. HELP FIND THEM! ON THE FAR WEST END OF
    GALVESTON ISLAND, TX
FAMILY MEMBERS (MY SISTER & NEPHEWS) FROM IKE STILL MISSING

Danielle (Dani) CHAPMAN and her two boys, Joel, and Addison CHAPMAN from Galveston, TX. Have not heard from them since Gustva. (approx. 9/3/08) I know IKE hit them hard, like everyone else. Not sure if they evacuated. They live on the far west end of the island. (PAST JAMAICA BEACH in SEA ISLE extn3) 4115 Kent Drive. The garage door is a painted Texas flag. Don’t know what happened on that end of the island, haven’t seen pictures of its outcome.

They too are listed at The LAURA RECOVERY CENTER (LRC) website with pictures.

CALL (858) 337-9850 with any info. about them and or the area
    Send info. and/or pictures: ickcole@live.com

GOD BLESS everyone – THANK YOU!

    Traci

  3. David and Sandy Fortenberry and Larry and Mary Alice Rogers are safe and sound. They got out and are staying with folks in greater Houston area. Their names can be removed from the ‘missing’ list. Unfortunately, the Fortenberry’s home was completely disappeared. Not sure about the Roger’s home. Thank God they evacuated.

    Their daughter, Holly

  4. We stayed at the “Bunk House” several times owned by Carol & Daryl Mardis. Saw their names on the missing list. Wanting to know if they are OK. Very sweet people. Please advise.
    Thanks!

  5. I spoke to Ed Werner today of Pt Bolivar(10-3-08)
He evacuated for the storm and he and his family are ok.
    Chris Oliphant

  6. My sister Sue has not heard from her friend Thelma Berryman. She lived at 40th & Ave R in Galveston, Galveston County, Texas. Has anyone heard from here, if not please add her to the list. Thanks, Margie

    Williams, Shane -deceased

  8. Thank you beachbaby- do you know the status of Delores Brookshire, Nathan Foreman et al? Changes made above. Thank you for keeping us up to date. God bless you.

  9. nathan foreman is in high island.
I took the above from a private forum for residents. I am trying to go back and forth to see the names. What is sad is there are so many names that are not posted anywhere.

  10. Thanks, Beachbaby. I visit those forums too, and you are right- there are so many names not listed. I am trying to keep this list as accurate as possible, but it is very difficult. Of course I will keep trying. Our prayers are with all of the families and friends that Ike has upended.

  11. The media blackout imposed right after the storm didn’t help. Then Hurricane Wall Street hit. The Bush Administration did NOT want another Katrina black eye, so a no-fly zone was implemented right away. The worst part: Most of those who ARE searching for the missing are volunteers. God bless those people…but many of them are residents who have lost so much already. The resources committed to searching are pitiful, ridiculous and shameful. It is a complete travesty.

  12. They have 44 debri piles tagged, that the dogs picked up scent on. They just don’t have the resources to do anything about it. It is beyond understanding.

  13. Hello, this is an UPDATE for missing family (my sister and nephews – Chapman) in Galveston, Tx.

Danielle, Joel & Addison Chapman are alive and well, this conformation came from the Galveston, Tx police department. My heart still goes out to the families who still are looking for their loved ones from Hurricane Ike.

The family (our father, brother and myself) have/were deeply concerned about the safety and welfare of Danielle, Joel and Addison after this storm, Hurricane Ike hit the island. Since there was not any substantial concrete verifiable communication from Danielle or my nephews, in that time frame. It has been a month, we finally got some real answers.

I WILL NOT BE SHAMED about doing what other families or family members would do in this situation, ask for help in finding their loved ones after any major catastrophic event. I wouldn’t shame the father of the boys for doing the same, since he found out on a internet blog about Danielle and his boys were among the missing from Hurricane Ike.

Thanks to the efforts of the following: The Laura Recovery Center, Galveston Police Department, Galveston Sheriff’s Department, Galveston’s Fire Department and to the Wichita Police Department and a special THANKS to the organization which helped by having a place to create the flyers for the missing (children), BeyondMissing.org. Lastly to ALL the Folks who help post this story on the internet, CNN, Lan Lamphere and Snark Food podcast) though other blogs, TV Stations, Radio, other listings and just plain posting up the flyers. If I didn’t say it before, Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!.
(They were not victims of Hurricane Ike nor victims of foul play).

Again, our family extends our thoughts and prayers out to everyone and the victims of Hurricane Ike.

    God Bless,
    Traci Turner,
    San Diego, Ca.

  14. Yes!!!!!!! Traci, I’m SO glad to be able to take your family members off of the list. Nothing makes me happier than being able to remove a family from being missing to being FOUND SAFE! Snarkfood’s prayers go out for all who are still searching for loved ones, that you too would be able to celebrate like Traci. She didn’t give up. Y’all don’t either.

  15. Has anyone heard from Dolly McCarley or her three daughters, alina, rheanna and ?. They lived on Bolivar.

  16. Susan
I read somewhere that ms. Rose was ok. So if her grandaughters were missing she would have let it be known

  17. I have met some of the kindest n best people I will ever meet while I was in texas….my heart goes out to all of you that have gone through this..your a strong lil town…keep ur heads held high…….. .R.I.P. T*L*F…gone but never forgoton

  18. Does it really matter? He has been through hell as it is with the media and the whole whole knowing about his infidility. Would it have made it easier if he had allowed questions to be asked? He made mistakes yes, but now we need to allow this remarkable sportsman return to the one thing he is great at -golf. Let him pick up the pieces with his family and move on
