Not very long ago, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony were sexing it up on the American Idol stage, looking every inch the devoted and passionate couple. Now the Hollywood power couple has suddenly announced, with no doubt about it, they are getting divorced. The couple released press statement on Friday afternoon saying they are splitting up for good.
“We have decided to end our marriage,” Jennifer Lopez and Mark Anthony said in a joint press statement released Friday. “This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters.”
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony married in June, 2004 at Lopez’s Beverly Hills home. They have two children together, 3-year-old twins Emme and Max.
“It is a painful time for all involved,” the couple’s statement continued, “and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time.”
This will be the third divorce for Jennifer Lopez, who was married in 1997 to Cuban-born waiter Ojani Noa and in 2001 to backup dancer Cris Judd. Lopez was also engaged previously to actor Ben Affleck in November, 2002 but the wedding was called off just hours before ceremony was to take place on September 14, 2003.
Marc Anthony is previously divorced from 1993 Miss Universe winner Dayanara Torres, with whom he has two additional children. Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony married only four days after his divorce from Torres was finalized.
