Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has released the first photo of Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as the titular hero in “The Lone Ranger” movie set to release next May. In a Tweet to fans, Bruckheimer popped out “The Lone Ranger” movie photo, showing a stern-faced Johnny Depp as Tonto and a scruffy Armie Hammer (“The Social network”) gazing off into space as The Lone Ranger.
Directed by Academy Award winner Gore Verbinski (“Pirates of the Caribbean”), “The Lone Ranger” is a re-imagining of the classic American Old West radio show and subsequent television series. The original “The Lone Walker” television series starred Clayton Moore as the titular character. Tonto was played in the TV show by Jay Silverheels.
“The Lone Ranger” movie has been in the works for a while, but suffered from budgeting issues and financing problems. The film finally got a pass through to start shooting last month, and now we have our first “The Lone Ranger” movie photo to ponder.
I have to say, while no one can pull off crazy makeup, a freaky hat and long, braided hair like Johnny Depp (think “Pirates” & “Willy Wonka”), I’m not as sold on Armie Hammer as The Lone Ranger. Especially when he looks like he desperately needs a shave.
“The Lone Ranger” movie also stars Tom Wilkinson (“Batman Begins”), William Fichtner (“Black Hawk Down”), Barry Pepper (“True Grit”) and Helena Bonham.
“Hi yo, Silver! Away!” — until next May, when “The Lone Ranger” movie is set to be released in theaters.
