Katy Perry and Russell Brand Divorce Officially Announced

After months of split rumors, the Katy Perry and Russell Brand divorce is finally confirmed! British comedian Russell Brand officially filed for divorce from pop star wife Katy Perry on Friday. The two were married in October, 2010 near the tiger sanctuary in India where Brand proposed in a private Hindu wedding.

“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage,” Russell Brand said in a press statement. “I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.” In divorce documents filed on Friday, the cause given for the split was “irreconcilable differences.” In the filing, Katy Perry is listed by her real name, Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson. No official date of separation is noted.

The announcement of the Russell Brand and Katy Perry divorce follows on the heels of months of rumors that the marriage between the two celebrities was on the rocks. Katy Perry, 27, and Russell Brand, 36, spent the Christmas holidays apart after an alleged ‘massive’ fight. Both were spotted out and about without their wedding rings.

Russell Brand and Katy Perry met on the set of Get Him to the Greek and became a near-instant couple. “You know when you know, and I just knew,” Perry told USA Today of the love at first sight moment with Brand. “He stopped my world. He’s someone I can count on, a life partner.”

Despite growing gossip of an impending split, Perry and Brand continued to deny there was any hint of a divorce until the announcement on Friday. Earlier this month, Brand appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and joked about the constant rumors of a split. He told Ellen DeGeneres that marriage to him meant “perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge. I’m still alive.”
