While the late Amy Winehouse‘s life would certainly make one hell of a movie, the British singer’s dad says rumors of an upcoming biopic film possibly featuring Lady Gaga are not true. In fact, Mitch Winehouse said the family would never allow his daughter’s songs to be released to be used for a movie.

Rumors that Winehouse’s ex Reg Traviss has been trying to produce a film about the singer have contributed to fanning the flames about a possible Amy Winehouse movie. The specific rumor of a biopic movie possibly starring Lady Gaga as Amy Winehouse appears to have been spawned by the UK Mirror tabloid.

The UK Mirror quoted Mitch Winehouse as saying he “heard that Lady Gaga is keen to play Amy in a film… “I don’t know what her English accent is like but it’s not just an English accent she would have to perfect—it’s an English-Cockney-Jewish accent so she better start practicing now. But she would be great.”

This alleged quote launched a whirlwind of gossip about a possible Amy Winehouse biopic film in the works with Lady Gaga as contender for the lead role. However, Mitch Winehouse seems now to be saying that not only is the gossip untrue, but there will never be an Amy Winehouse movie made with his approval.

“I never said Lady Gaga will play Amy in film,” winehouse posted on his Twitter feed. In an interview with The Daily Mail, Winehouse added that his daughter’s life “will never be told in film” with his permission. “It would hardly be a biopic without the music and we’d never allow the songs to be released,” he said.

Mitch Winehouse is planning to release a memoir book about his daughter, even if he won’t get behind the idea of a movie. All proceeds from the book will reportedly go to The Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charity created after singer’s death at age 27 from accidental alcohol poisoning.
