Entertainment Tonight anchor Mary Hart said Marie Osmond’s son’s death was foreshadowed by a history of depression and visits to rehab. Speaking on CBS’ Early Show, Hart said Michael Blosil‘s suicide was “one of the most difficult stories that I have had to report in my 28 years” with ET.

Marie Osmond’s son Michael Blosil committed suicide Friday evening by leaping from the Los Angeles apartment building where he lived. 18-year-old Blosil, one of Osmond’s five adopted children with ex-husband Brian Blosil, reportedly died at the scene. Blosil wrote in a suicide note left in his apartment that he was terribly unhappy, had few friends and felt like he did not fit in. The note was found by a female friend who received a text message from Blosil shortly before his death.
“He had struggled,” Hart said during her appearance on The Early Show. “He had been in and out of rehab.”  Marie Osmond continued to have high hopes for her son, despite his troubles, Hart said. “Marie, always looking for the silver lining, had always hoped for the best.”
Marie and Donny Osmond‘s show at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas has been temporarily suspended. In a statement to ABC News, Marie Osmond said the family is “devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time.”
“You can bet she has loving arms around her,” Hart said of Osmond. “The Osmonds are a very close-knit family and, in times of loss or tragedy, they support each other and really band together as a family, and in love.”

Such a tragedy. My heart goes out to the Osmond family. Being a mother myself, I can’t imagine.
This is terrible to hear. I hope she does alright.
