New Star Wars Movie Announced After Disney Buys LucasFilm for $4 Billion

A new Star Wars film made by DISNEY? Oh god no! Hold on to your seats and be prepared to vomit, sci-fi fans. Disney has announced they plan to make a new Star Wars film after buying LucasFilm Ltd. for $4.05 billion dollars. Please, George Lucas, please say it is not so! Think of what they did to John Carter!

Sadly, George Lucas can’t say it is not so. In fact, in a press statement, he said it is “now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers.” In other words, he is saying clearly that his creative soul and the ultimate legacy of his life is worth… about $4.05 billion dollars.

Okay, so I have to admit, I would probably sell my soul and ultimate life’s work for far, far less… Hey Disney, I have a lot of undeveloped film ideas and unfinished novels… want to take a look?

Seriously though, I am just cringing inside to think what the Walt Disney Company is going to do with a new Star Wars film. They have already announced, in frantic bliss, that Star Wars: Episode 7 will be released in 2015. When I think of the murder they committed with John Carter and Tron: Legacy… all I can do is facepalm.

My heart aches at the thought of Star Wars in Disney hands. Granted, the second trilogy of prequel movies was lame in a lot of ways, but it was stil Lucas and his vision — as crazy as it was in places. Even if George Lucas has driven Star Wars fans nearly insane with his ‘tweaking’ of the original films and the idiocy of things like Jar-Jar Binks in the prequels, he is still the creator and master of Star Wars. Even when it is bad, it is still Lucas, so it still deserves love and loyalty anyway.

Supposedly he’ll still be on board as a “creative consultant” but a new Star Wars film without George Lucas at the helm is not, in my opinion, a Star Wars film at all. It is just a cheap, strike that, very, very expensive knockoff.

  1. The only idiocy that Disney brought to John Carter was the marketing effort. That was a very good movie that deserved a much better fate.
