Nick Cannon has announced he will step down from his radio show in New York City after doctors found blood clots in his lungs and discovered a ventricle in his heart was enlarged. Cannon revealed on his show earlier this week that he had been in the hospital again over the weekend due to ongoing health issues. Back in January, Cannon was hospitalized for kidney failure while on vacation with wife Mariah Carey in Aspen.
“Under doctor’s orders, I have been asked to put my health first and cut back on some of my professional commitments in order to allow my body to get the rest that it needs to keep up with the demands of my multi-tasking schedule,” Nick Cannon said in a statement on Friday.
“It has been an absolute pleasure working with CBS Radio and the 92.3 NOW morning show team and I would like to thank them for their unwavering support,” Cannon said. “I will continue to host my syndicated “Cannon’s Countdown” weekend show and look forward to contributing to 92.3 NOW whenever possible. Even Superman has to sleep.”
Cannon, the father of twins with wife Mariah Carey, also posted a note to his fans on Twitter about his resignation from the radio show. “A bitter sweet morning. I have to stop my radio show. Doctors orders,” Cannon said. “The Doctors found blood clots in my lungs and said if I don’t slow down and stop working so hard then it’s a wrap!”
The host of Nick Cannon’s radio show, 92.3 NOW, issued a press statement in support of the actor’s need to focus on his health. “We respect and understand Nick’s decision to step down from his day to day position as host of morning drive on 92.3 NOW, and fully support him as he takes on a less demanding role with the station in order to address his health. Everyone at the station and all of the CBS RADIO family wish him well, and look forward to his continuing contributions to 92.3 NOW.”
Although Cannon has brushed off his health troubles as primarily a lack of rest and pushing him too hard, fans are starting to worry something more serious might be going on with the singer and actor. Suffering mild kidney failure followed only a few months later by blood clots in the lungs and an enlarged heart ventricle sounds pretty scary to us. We hope there isn’t anything more to it than for Cannon to take it easy and hope he will get well soon.
