Rumors have been flying Oprah Winfrey will shortly be taking her daytime talk show to her own new cable network. Reports also claim Oprah would moving the show from its home in Chicago to Los Angeles. According to Oprah’s reps, however, no such decision has yet been made.
“Oprah has not made a decision,” Harpo spokesperson Angela DePaul said in a press statement. Fans of the show should stay tuned, however, because the big O will be making “an announcement before the end of the year.”
The CBS contract for the Oprah Winfrey Show expires in 2011, coinciding with the talk show diva’s 25th year on television. Rumor has it Oprah may just decide to call it quits for her show and move on to other projects. Or she might stay with the show and move it to her own new channel, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). The new channel is reportedly a joint venture between Discovery networks and Oprah.
If the show does move to cable, the result could be bad news for Oprah. Her talk show has been suffering from a mass fall in ratings over the past five years. A move to cable, especially to a brand new network, could drive the ratings down even further.
“We are not commenting on rumors or speculation,†a spokesperson for OWN said about the possible move. “(OWN) will announce our launch date by the end of the year.â€
