In what can only be described as an extremely ironic bit of news, a man who was the grand prize winner in a Breaking Bad ultimate fan contest was arrested on Wednesday in a massive drug bust. Ryan Lee Carroll was taken into custody after police found him in possession of 79,000 packets of synthetic pot worth an alleged $1.25 million.
Ryan Carroll, 28, was the big winner in an official ultimate fan prize contest for the Breaking Bad series finale. As part of his winnings, Ryan got to fly out to Los Angeles and hang out with the cast at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Turns out the dude wasn’t just a fan of the drug-themed series, he is just a big fan of drugs in general.
The Taste 2014 may not have the fast-paced action of Top Chef, or the fun-filled cursing and ranting of Gordon Ramsey on Hell’s Kitchen, but for a cooking reality TV competition, it has a certain unique appeal. With it’s The Voice-style blind auditions, The Taste season 2 gives a level playing field to chefs of all backgrounds, including amateur cooks. While the show has not brought in tremendous ratings for host network ABC yet, we do think it is worth watching the premiere tonight if you haven’t tuned in before, just to see if The Taste is to your liking.
The Taste season 2 premieres on ABC tonight at 8PM ET with returning judges Anthony Bourdain and Nigella Lawson. New judge/mentor Marcus Samuelsson, who won the James Beard Foundation award for food writing last year, will also be joining the panel this year. We’re excited about Marcus coming on board. He was a big fan favorite on Top Chef Masters in 2010 and on The Next Iron Chef in 2011. Marcus is also a frequent judge on Chopped and the winner of the Chopped All Stars: Judges Remix competition.
Chef and mentor Ludo Lefebre told TVGuide.com that The Taste is really “almost like two competitions in one show,” because each of the judge/mentors want to win the competition as much as the contestants do. He also said everyone better watch out for Marcus, because he knows his stuff. “He knows what’s good,” Ludo said. “He has a lot of good experience and has proved to all the world that he’s a great chef.”
Tune in for the two-hour The Taste 2014 premiere on ABC at 8 PM ET.
We would like to take a moment to thank all our wonderful readers this year for visiting and being so entirely awesome. We will be taking a few days off to spend with family and friends and hope you will be able to as well. We will be back again soon with more snarky, gossipy goodness for you to enjoy. Meanwhile, grab a hot chocolate, DVR some favorite sappy movies, and we hope you enjoy very happy holiday time!
We really don’t care who won The Sing Off 2013 tonight because we love all three of the final acts! We never thought this poor little show would ever make it back on air after the sad ratings it suffered from in season 3, but we’ve really enjoyed the ‘mini’ version series. No matter who won The Sing Off 2013 tonight, all three acts deserve our applause for helping revive this fun reality TV competition for at least one more season.
If we had to pick who would win The Sing Off tonight we would probably would have placed our tentative bets on Home Free. This all guy group gives country a whole new flair and they are true professionals. Home Free is easily the most polished act of the final three groups and they appeal to a wide swath of fans across the country. Plus, we feel they just have the best harmonies of all the remaining acts.
We believe that at the end of the night, who won The X Factor 2013 would come down to a very slim margin. Although Alex & Sierra appear to have the lead in many fan polls, Jeff Gutt had an extremely strong social media backing on Twitter and Facebook. We are pretty sure poor Carlito Olivero wouldn’t be the one who won The X Factor season 3, but we think he should be very proud he made it this far against such stiff competition.
While we were personally cheering for Alex & Sierra to win at the end of the star-studded The X Factor finale this week, we understand why his fans love Jeff Gutt. He’s a rocker, he has a more mainstream appeal than Alex & Sierra, and his obvious adoration of his cute son gives him a sweet and sensitive site as well. Plus, he gave it all he had on part one of The X Factor season 3 finale in his final performances, there is no doubt of that!
Yesterday, we were hoping it would be Alex & Sierra who won The X Factor 2013. After last night’s peformances in part one of The X Factor season 3 finale, we believe if they don’t win, it would be a total shock. However, while we think they should be the ones who will win The X Factor 2013 tonight, fans of Jeff Gutt and Carlito Olivero aren’t giving up quite yet.
Figuring out who won The X Factor season 3 is a lot tougher than predicting who would win The Voice season 5 on Tuesday. We would like to just call it right now for Alex & Sierra, but our pick for who will win The X Factor 2013 may be more sentimental than logical. While we think the quirky lovers deserve to win, we worry that the voters will decide to go for a more mainstream choice.
If you look back at all the performances of the final three acts, we feel Alex & Sierra of Team Simon Cowell have given the most mesmerizing and spectacular moments on The X Factor season 3 of all of them. While we like Jeff Gutt of team Kelly Rowland, we tend to be more moved by his adorable son than his vocal prowess on stage. Sometimes, he just feels only a couple of steps above a really good karaoke singer and he tends to just push everything too hard. As for Carlito Olivero of Team Paulina Rubio, he’s a cute guy with a fun style, but we just don’t feel he’s a superstar in the making and his voice is sometimes rough.
