Former New York Giants star Plaxico Burress was released from prison Monday morning after serving 22 months for weapons charges. Burress pleaded guilty in 2009 to criminal possession of a gun after shooting himself by accident at a nightclub in New York.

“It’s a beautiful day,” Plaxico Burress told reporters after his release. “It’s a beautiful day to be reunited with my family. I want to go home and spend some quality time with them.” Burress also took time to thank his fans
“all around the world for the thousands of letters, for their unwavering support.”

Burress is hoping some NFL team out there will be able to look past his criminal record and put him back on the field. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, believes Burress is a top free agent and many teams will want him, according to HuffingtonPost.com.

Hell, if Michael Vick can be a star again after the horrible things he’s done, why not? Accidently shooting yourself while illegally carrying around a gun is surely not as nasty a crime as torturing and killing animals, right?

Former New York Giants teammate Brandon Jacobs said Burress would not be returning to that team in 2011, however. “That’s out of the question,” Jacobs told the Newark Star-Ledger.
