What is really going on with this whole uproar over the Rob Lowe Peyton Manning retirement rumor? Is it true that the 35-year-old Indianapolis Colts quarterback will be giving up the game for good because he’s no longer physically able to play? According to Indianapolis Colts coach Jim Isray, Rob Lowe should keep his mouth shut and focus on that upcoming porn remake he’ll be doing soon.
Colts quarterback Peyton Manning underwent surgery on his neck last May, but his recovery did not go well. The NFL star was forced to undergo surgery again in September, which lead the Colts to replace him with interim starting quarterback Kerry Collins. Although manning publicly stated his intention to play at some point in the 2011 season, he never once took the field. Unfortunately for the Indianapolis Colts, the team went on to a rather dismal 2-14 season.
While Manning and the Colts have maintained that the young quarterback will be eventually returning to the game, his inability to play in even one 2011 season game has left his fans seriously concerned. Which is probably why the Rob Lowe Peyton Manning retirement rumor has stirred up so much backlash.
The kerfluffle erupted after visitors to the Rob Lowe Twitter feed found several statements by the actor spouting information from his “people” that a Peyton Manning retirment was in the works. In his first Tweet on the topic, Lowe said: “Hearing my fave, #18 Peyton Manning will not return to #NFL. Wow. #Colts” Another Tweet followed shortly afterward directed to NFL Total Access host Rich Eisen: “@richeisen My people are saying Manning will retire today. What do you hear? #NFL”
In his final Tweet about the Petyon Manning retirement rumor, Lowe said: “#Colts fans, let’s hope my info is wrong. Don’t like being wrong, but this time… I’m hoping. #NFL #Manning”
Who exactly Rob Lowe’s “people” are that informed him of an iminent Peyton Manning retirement announcement is anyone’s guess. Manning’s father, Archie, seemed to have no idea where Lowe was getting his information. “He ain’t retiring,” the former New Orleans Saints quater back reportedly told the New York Daily News. “I think he would’ve told me.”
Manning’s older brother, Cooper, also dismissed the rumor. “That would surprise me. He’s committed to working out and getting healthy — meaning getting ready to play.” He said Robe Lowe’s comments were totally “out of left field” and he has “no idea where theat’s coming from.”
Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay took to his own Twitter feed on Thursday for a snarky response to the Rob Lowe Peyton Manning retirement rumor. “My sources tell me Rob will star in an epic remake of Deep Throat with aging porn stars and 4 finger circus clowns!”
