British actor Russell Brand was arrested over an incident involving the comedian grabbing a photographer’s iPhone and hurling it through a window. Russell Brand reportedly turned himself in Thursday afternoon after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Photographer Timothy Jackson filed a police report against Russell Brand claiming the actor snatched his iPhone and smashed it through the window of a law firm. The paparazzi photog said he had been following Brand on Monday taking pics through his car window when the confrontation happened.
New Orleans police issued a misdemeanor warrant against Russell Brand for a charge of criminal damage to property. Brand was arrested after voluntarily surrendering to police when notified of the outstanding warrant.
After the Russell Brand iPhone incident went public, the actor cracked a joke about his run-in with the photographer via his Twitter feed. “Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iPhone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory.”
Brand’s reps did contact the law firm to offer to pay to repair for the broken window. The iPhone was returned to the photographer. Actually, I’m a bit impressed at Brand’s throwing arm managing to put the iPhone through the window, rather than just bounce it off the glass.
Russell will no doubt be released quickly considering the extremely mild nature of the charge against him.
