Sahara Davenport of RuPaul’s Drag Race Dead at 27

Rupaul’s Drag Race star Sahara Davenport has died at the age of 27. Davenport, born Antoine Ashley, starred on season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race on Logo. So far the cause of death is still undetermined.

“Logo is profoundly saddened by the passing of Antoine Ashley who fans around the world knew and loved as Sahara Davenport,” the network said in a press statement. “He was an amazing artist and entertainer who’ll be deeply missed by his Logo family. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, especially his boyfriend Karl, in their time of need.”

Beyond his successful career as a drag artist, Sahara Davenport was also a classically trained dancer and singer. In addition to his time on season two of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Sahara Davenport also appeared in  Magnificent Obsessions, 15 Films About Madonna and One Life to Live. He released a single, “Go Off,” in 2011 that reached number 35 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart.

RuPaul tweeted Tuesday, “Shocked & heartbroken over @SaharaDavenport. Never occurred to me that we’d ever lose one of my girls. I see them as immortal.”

Sahara Davenport is survived by boyfriend Karl Westerberg (also known as Manila Luzan), who competed on RuPaul’s Drag Race in season three. Karl posted a single, grieving Tweet on Sunday saying: “I love him so much.”
