Irish singer Sinead O’Connor and Barry Herridge have called it quits on their marraige after just 16 days. On her blog, 46-year-old O’Connor posted that the marriage to Herridge went sour only three hours after the couple wed in Las Vegas on December 8th.

“Within 3 hours of the ceremony being over the marriage was kyboshed (ruined) by the behavior of certain people in my husband’s life. And also by a bit of a wild ride I took us on looking for a bit of a smoke of weed for me wedding night as I don’t drink,” Sinead O’Connor said on her blog about the split.

O’Connor, who famously imploded her own career by ripping up a photo of Pope Jon Paul II on Saturday Night Live, said her new husband was “enormously wounded and very badly affected by that experience and also by the attitude of those close to him toward our marriage. It became apparent to me that if he were to stay with me he would be losing too much to bear.”

“Entitled as they are to their opinions about me many perhaps well deserved, there was no righteousness on anyone’s part to put my husband through what he was put through as a result of his desire to be with me and to marry me and as a result of his actually marrying me,” Sinead, 45, wrote.

“A woman wants to be a joy to her husband,” she wrote. “So. U love someone? Set them free.”

According to Sinead O’Connor, who is mother to four children, she made a mistake by “rushing into getting married” again. The singer previously ended her third marriage to musician Steve Cooney earlier this year. That marriage lasted only eight months.
