Fela!, which tells the story of Nigerian Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, and La Cage aux Folles tied for the most nominations, each receiving 11 in total. Fences, a revival of the August Wilson play, picked up ten nominations, including leading performance nominations for actors Denzel Washington and Viola Davis.
