While we were not too sad to see who got eliminated this week on American Idol, we were dismayed to find out it was not Tim Urban who got the boot. We keep waiting and waiting, but he keeps going and going like a damned energizer bunny on speed.

The American Idol top 12 took to the stage Monday night for a Rolling Stones themed showdown and once again the ladies hand the guys a royal smackdown. While we do concede a few of the guys were decent, it was definitely the ladies who really left everyone else in the dust.

So how did the American Idol top eight women do last night? Well, here’s our ranking of the performances from the evening.

While the women of American Idol certainly outshined the men Wednesday night, that’s not really saying much. While most of the performances were just boringly mediocre, a few were just appallingly bad. Luckily, there were a few rare exceptions.

So far this year on American Idol, we’ve been rather uninspired by most of the contestants, including many of those in the top 24. Overall, the men have seemed especially bland this season, but last night we finally started to click with a few of the top 10 male contestants.

American Idol will break with tradition on Tuesday night by announcing a partial list of the top 24 contestants during the two hour special.

ABC is reportedly ready to offer ex-American Idol judge Paula Abdul a million dollar deal if she’ll sign on as a judge for Dancing with the Stars. The network has even allegedly offered to work the gig around Simon Cowell’s new X Factor show if she plans on judging on that as well.

American Idol contestant Michael Lynche was allegedly cut from the competition after it was revealed he had made it to the top 24. No official announcement about Lynche being disqualified has been released from Fox, however, so we’re still taking this rumor with a hefty load of salt.

Last night’s American Idol auditions in Chicago were some of the worst of the season so far, with only 13 of 12,000 hopefuls making it through to Hollywood. Although overall the audition show was kind of a downer, guest judge Shania Twain was a treat to watch.

The breakout star on Wednesday night’s American Idol wasn’t the chick with the awesome voice, or the cute boy with High School Musical good looks. No, it was General Larry Platt’s “Pants on the Ground” video that has stormed the Net following his American Idol audition.
