Singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead at her north London home at the age of 27. No, this is not another one of those internet celebrity death hoaxes. Amy Winehouse was found dead at her flat in Camden Square by emergency response personnel around 1500 GMT (11AM ET).
The cause of Winehouse’s death is still unknown at this time, but a drug overdose is suspected, according to Nick Buckley of the Sunday Mirror. Officially, police are treating the singer’s death as ‘unexplained’ at this time.
London Metropolitan Police report they received a call for help for a woman in Camden at around 4:00PM local time. Amy Winehouse was reportedly already dead by the time two ambulance crews called to the scene arrived, according to the London Ambulance Services.
Grammy-winner Amy Winehouse, who penned the hit song “Rehab,” has battled an addiction to drugs and alcohol, including herion, for much of her adult life. She was most recently in rehab just a few months ago. Winehouse has allegedly suffered at least two major drug overdoses in the past.
Last month, Winehouse cancelled her European tour after a drunken breakdown on stage in Serbia, where she was heckled loudly by the audience.
