Memorial Service Planned For Jett Travolta

A memorial service for Jett Travolta will be held tomorrow. The private service, to be be held in Ocala, Florida, will honor the 16-year-old son of John Travolta and Kelly Preston, who died after a seizure in the Bahamas on Friday.

Jett’s parents took an urn with his ashes and left the Bahamas on Monday night, arriving in Florida on Tuesday.

According to the funeral home in the Bahamas which cremated him, Jett’s body showed no signs of head trauma. An autopsy was completed on Monday, and it determined that no foul play was involved. The funeral home leaked the information that the cause of death was seizure. Jett was reportedly not taking medicine for seizure disorder at the time of his death, and authorities said last night that they would be questioning his parents as part of their investigation into Jett’s death.

Denis Leary On Autism: A Complete Idiot

Denis Leary has a new book coming out called “Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid”. In the book, he calls Autism a JOKE. What a freaking publicity grab, and a shameful one as well. US Magazine is quoting Leary as saying:

“There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can’t compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks . . . to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don’t give a [bleep] what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you – yer kid is NOT autistic. He’s just stupid. Or lazy. Or both.”

The Autism Society of America has fired back: “For Mr. Leary to suggest that families or doctors conspire to falsely diagnose autism is ridiculous . . . [His] remarks reflect the same misconceptions of autism being caused by bad or unemotional parenting that were held over 50 years ago.”

Snarkista and Snarkista Jr. have worked with autistic kids for many, many years…and have watched the explosion of the disorder up close and personal. Their parents are FAR from inattentive, they are trying everything they can to help their kids, and as a result are usually exhausted. Many times these kids have perfectly normal, well adjusted siblings…which is pretty amazing considering the incredible stress the parents have. So your “bad parenting” theory, Denis, is insane.

Ever try to find a babysitter for an autistic kid? GOOD LUCK. The reason many of these kids can’t compete in school is because they are DISABLED. They may not speak. They may be frightened by normal objects or situations. They may take off and run for hours if they are upset. They may sit in a corner with their hands over their ears because of extreme sound sensitivity. They may have extreme food allergies and not be able to digest like normal kids. These kids cannot process the stimuli around them…it all comes at them at one time. They can’t compartmentalize it like we can, and it results in complete sensory overload.

Obviously Denis has never been around an autistic child. He and Michael Savage need to STFU and walk a mile in the shoes of family dealing with autism. What a crappy way to try to sell a book. Boycott it. Maybe it will teach this clown a lesson.

Video: Michael Savage Tries To Cover His Ass Over Autism

Snarkista told you about radio personality Michael Savage’s ridiculous, idiotic and incendiary comments about kids with autism, and that autistic kids were the result of “lax parenting”. The shizz has hit the fan.

Snarkista is among the MANY who are outraged! Savage has a HUGE audience, and surely many of them share Snarkista’s viewpoint. If you’re so inclined, click here to sign the petition to Fire Michael Savage.

Michael Savage Is An Effin’ Idiot

Snarkista is gonna take off her snarkhat for just a moment, and get out her can of whoop-ass. And she’s gonna open that sucker UP on Michael Savage. For the past 9 years, my daughter and I have worked as volunteers with the disabled. We have watched with alarm and shock at the DRASTIC rise in the number of autistic children we see every year.

On July 16th, controversial radio host Michael Savage characterized nearly every child with autism as “a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out”. Savage also called autism “a fraud and a racket” during his syndicated show, and went on to label children with the disorder as “idiots” and “morons.”

Savage said in a telephone interview today that he stood by his remarks and had no intention of apologizing to those advocates and parents who have called for his firing over the matter.

My main point remains true. It is an overdiagnosed medical condition. In my readings, there is no definitive medical diagnosis for autism.

On his show, which is broadcast every weekday, Mr. Savage suggested that “99 percent of the cases” of autism were a result of lax parenting. He told his audience: “They don’t have a father around to tell them, ‘Don’t act like a moron. You’ll get nowhere in life.” Among the other admonitions he felt children with autism should be hearing, he said, were: “ ‘Straighten up. Act like a man. Don’t sit there crying and screaming, idiot.’ ” Yeah. Tell that to Jenny McCarthy.

But he said he was proud to have prodded discussion on the subject, and planned to give over his entire show on Monday — broadcast live from Northern California from 3 to 6 p.m., Pacific time — to parents and other callers who wished to disagree with him and to educate him.

Many people aren’t waiting until today’s edition of Mr. Savage’s show, “The Savage Nation,” to register their outrage. In New York City, Autism United, a coalition of organizations that advocate on behalf of children with autism and provide services to them, staged a protest Monday outside the studios of WOR (710 AM), which carries Mr. Savage’s program weeknights from 6 to 9 p.m., Eastern time.
