Indie’s Poster Couple Call it Quits

Everyone’ favorite indie stars have separated, putting an apparent end to their two year marriage. Actress 31-year-old Zooey Deschanel and 32-year-old Ben Gibbard, frontman for Death Cab for Cutie, called it quits this week.

They’re not talking about what went wrong, except to say that there was no third party involved and that the split was mutual and amicable. As recently as this summer, the couple was talking about how happy they were, and what it took to make their relationship work.

In July, Deschanel told iVillage that her time apart from her hubby worked to actually bring them closer, stating, “I’m a pretty busy person, so it allows us to get our work done … And when we see each other again, we have a lot of stuff to talk about.” She stated that marriage was a commitment you make every day and that it was work, but “not work in a bad way.”

Post-split it’s likely the couple will focus on their respective careers. Deschanel recently began starring in the Fox show, New Girl.
