Jane Fonda coming back in a big way

This may be the biggest senior-citizen return to show business since Betty White – Jane Fonda, award-winning actress and ’80s fitness guru, has just come out with a whole new series of fitness DVDs geared toward the silver set.  In addition, the 72-year-old has said that she’s ready to get back into acting full-time, voicing her desire to find a cable network that could put her in a starring role for a dramatic series that she has in mind.

Jane announced recently that she’s just come out the other side of a battle with breast cancer, and I guess there’s no need to guess who was the victor – she looks fantastic, and clearly she’s healthy and feeling more like her old workaholic self again.

Barbara Walters more deluded than originally thought

Barbara Walters has announced nine of her “Ten Most Fascinating People” for 2010, and the names on it, with a couple of exceptions, are enough to make you wonder if Walters has succumbed to a sudden bout of dementia.

Kate Middleton made the list, simply for saying yes to a wedding proposal after eight years of stalling.  Yes, fascinating.  Sarah Palin made the list, too, but perhaps it could be argued that she’s fascinating in the same way that a train wreck is.  Jennifer Lopez is also included – seriously?  And of course, there’s Bieber and the cast of Jersey Shore, just to round out the  bewildering choices.  The only person on the list remotely interesting is Betty White, and I might tune in to the Barbara Walters special just to see what White has to say.

Betty White totally going viral

Man, Betty White is everywhere these days, and it’s not just the entertainment industry that has caught on to her gigantic comeback.  The U.S. Forest Service has made White an honorary ranger, in a ceremony  in Washington earlier this week.

White says this makes up for when she wanted to be a ranger as a little girl, but at the time women were not allowed to take the job.  The actress was given a ranger’s hat and a little stuffed version of Smokey the Bear to take home with her.  White was not in town specifically to become a ranger, though – she later attended Tina Fey’s Mark Twain Prize ceremony.

Tina Fey wins humor prize

Finally there’s some justice in the universe – Tina Fey, SNL veteran and star of 30 Rock, was awarding the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center last night.  That Fey is still so young and has had a relatively short career is a testament to her comedic genius, as most humorists and comedians who receive this prestigious award have been in the business for many decades, and are usually closer to 80 than 40.

The event last night was attended by the cream of Hollywood comedy – Steve Martin and Betty White were both there, as well as Fey’s former SNL colleagues Jimmy Fallon, Amy Poehler, and show creator Lorne Michaels.

Betty White Oscars Facebook Campaign!

The Betty White SNL Facebook campaign was so successful, with such entertaining results, that fans have now launched a Facebook petition to have the Golden Girls star host the next Oscars. We say hell yeah!

Betty White on Saturday Night Live was one of the most fabulously fun shows SNL has had in years. NBC can thank Facebookers for the enormous ratings the show garnered from having Betty White take the stage. Facebook fans launched a massive campaign to get their Golden Girl on the show and SNL finally had no choice but to give in.

Now those same Facebook fanatics have launched a new campaign to land Betty White a gig hosting the Academy Awards. The Facebook page “Getting Betty White to Host the Academy Awards” has already garnered more than 6,000 fans since Sunday night.

We are totally on board with this brilliant idea. Betty White was awesome on Saturday Night Live. Not only did she prove she’s still got the comic timing that made her famous, she also showed that no matter how nervous she might have been, she has no trouble handling the stress of live TV.

Alec Baldwin Hosting Saturday Night Live Finale

Alec Baldwin will be hosting the Saturday Night Live finale later this month! This is almost too fun to be true, but it seems the 30 Rock star will be returning to SNL to host the show’s last episode of the season.

First we finally get Betty White to host Saturday Night Live on May 8th thanks to all her adoring fans blasting away on the Internet to get her the gig. Now we get Alec Baldwin as the host of SNL‘s finale just a week later on May 15th. What a way to end the season!

NBC hasn’t officially confirmed that Baldwin will be hosting the finale, but the 30 Rock star apparently let the news slip at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner over the weekend.

This will make the 15th time Alec Baldwin has hosted Saturday Night Live, tying him with Steve Martin. Our TiVo is primed and ready!
