Fans have allegedly been storming out of Britney Spears “Circus” tour concerts in Australia, claiming they are outraged over the singer’s lackluster performance and lip-syncing to pre-recorded tracks.
Reports in Australian media allege some concert goers have been walking out in the midst of Britney Spears’ concerts to promote her new Circus album. The protests are reportedly spurred by Spears’ alleged boring stage presence and lip-syncing along to pre-recorded songs, rather than singing live. Some fans reportedly demanded their refunds for their tickets, which cost from several hundred to several thousand dollars.
Spears’ tour promoter, Paul Dainty, says the reports of mass fan walkouts are untrue and Spears is “extremely upset” by the misinformation he says is being reported by the press. “She’s a human being. I’m embarrassed… when I see that kind of totally inaccurate reporting,” Dainty told The Australian. Dainty called the rumors “the biggest lie I’ve ever heard.”
In response to the controversy, local politicians in Australia are reportedly calling for laws that would force music promoters to disclose whether a concert would be live or lip-synched.
John Mayer, in Australia to promote his own album, weighed in Saturday on controversy over Britney Spears lip-syncing at her concerts Down Under. “If you’re shocked that Britney was lip-syncing at her concert and want your money back, life may continue to be hard for you,” Mayer posted on his Twitter feed.
Well, I personally have to chime in here and say if you can’t do it live, maybe you just shouldn’t be doing it at all. Then again, if you’re paying $1,500 for a ticket to see Britney Spears – who is well known for lip-synching and often lackluster performances, you probably deserve what you get.
