Twilight Actress Rachelle Lefevre Stunned Over Recasting in Third Film Eclipse

As SnarkFood.com reported yesterday, gorgeous redhead Rachelle Lefevre was suddenly replaced this week as the villainous vampire Victoria in the third Twilight film. Lefevre played evil blood-sucker Victoria in the original Twilight and the forthcoming sequel New Moon. Bryce Dallas Howard, star of such films as Spider-Man 3 and The Village, will take over for Lefevre in Eclipse, the third installment of the Twilight film series.

We thought the whole recasting of Victoria sounded a bit fishy, considering Lefevre was interviewing about her role in Eclipse just a few weeks ago. Well, turns out we weren’t the only ones surprised by the sudden move – so was, apparently, Rachelle Lefevre herself.

In a statement to the press, Rachelle Lefevre said she is “stunned” by her boot from Eclipse. Lashing out about her replacement, Lefevre said she is “deeply hurt by Summit’s surprising decision to move on without me.” Furthermore, Lefevre stated she was “fully committed to the Twilight saga… I am greatly saddened that I will not get to complete my portrayal of Victoria for the Twilight audience.”

As for Summit Entertainment’s claim that a “scheduling conflict” was responsible for the recasting of Bryce Dallas Howard in the role, Lefevre doesn’t get it – and neither do we. Lefevre was scheduled to do a bit of filming for the indie drama Barney’s Version. But according to Lefevre, there were only 10 days that she would not be available to shoot for Eclipse. “Never did I fathom I would lose the role over a 10-day overlap,” Lefevre said. “I was happy with my contract with Summit and was fully prepared to continue to honor it. Summit chose simply to recast the part.”

Summit Entertainment, put on the spot by Rachelle Lefevre’s vocal outrage over the loss of her role, shot back with a press statement to Access Hollywood that placed the blame solely on the actress. “It was not until July 20th that Summit was first informed of Ms. Lefevre’s commitment to Barney’s Version, a commitment we have since been advised she accepted in early June.”

“We feel that her choice to withhold her scheduling conflict information from us can be viewed as a lack of cooperative spirit which affected the entire production,” the statement from Summit continued. “We at Summit Entertainment are disappointed by Rachelle Lefevre’s recent comments which attempt to make her career choices the fault of the studio.”

We’re sure that not telling your studio that you are going to be in Europe filming for someone else during the time you are supposed to be rehearsing and shooting for them is a pretty stupid move. On the other hand, Summit’s statement makes them sound a lot like a spoiled teenager pissed off that their girlfriend was caught kissing somebody else on the side.

Bryce Dallas Howard Replaces Rachelle Lefevre in Third Twilight Film ‘Eclipse’

Not all of the original cast will be showing up for Eclipse, the third installment of the mega-hit Twilight film series. No worries though, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will all be there for your drooling pleasure. But it turns out fiery redhead Rachelle Lefevre won’t be returning as naughty vampire Victoria in Eclipse. Instead, the part of the evil blood-sucker will be played by Bryce Dallas Howard.

Rachelle Lefevre played vampire Victoria in both Twilight and the forthcoming New Moon films, but apparently had a conflict with Eclipse’s shooting schedule. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lefevre gave up the third Twilight film to do an indie drama with Dustin Hoffman called Barney’s Version.

Yeah, somehow we just don’t think that was probably the wisest career move. Barney’s Version sounds like a straight-to-DVD title if I’ve ever heard one. And Eclipse really has the best bits for Victoria of all the films. Somehow we have to wonder if maybe Miss Lefevre was sniffing for a bit more moolah and got a smack-down? It seems especially odd since Lefevre was doing press for Eclipse just a few weeks ago. In an interview with the London Free Press, Lefevre notably said about the switch of directors for Eclipse: “The [Harry] Potter kids went through a director shift and they were OK, so we’ll be OK, too.”

Note the usage of the phrase, “we’ll be OK” – as in just a few weeks ago, Rachelle Lefevre seemed pretty sure she’d be on set for the filming of Eclipse.

Oh well. Rachel Lefevre certainly made a tasty Victoria and it’s usually never a good move to replace a significant cast member halfway through a series. But then again, Bryce Dallas Howard is not bad eye-candy either. But Twilight fans are a rabid bunch – and we’re thinking there are going to be a lot of folks out there a bit displeased by the switch.
