Hollywood is famous for some extremely short-lived marriages. There was the Britney Spears married-in-Vegas fiasco; you may have forgotten J.Lo and Chris Judd’s seven month matrimony; but chances are you remember Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock’s five month dalliance! To this list (and there are many, many more celebs to be included) add Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries. Kim filed for divorce this morning, supposedly over differences of opinion on where the couple was planning to live. The Huffington Post reports that Humprhies wanted to set up shop in Minnesota while Kim wanted to be near her family in California. Did no one tell them to discuss this prior to their wedding? Which, by the way, took place a mere 72 days ago, on August 20th.
Their relationship – which started in December of last year – and wedding was highly publicized via Kim’s reality show, “Keeping up with the Kardashians,” but apparently during that time no one told the couple they should talk about crucial things like their ideas for the future.
Maybe it’s more than that, though – the couple has also been filming Kim’s new show: “Kourtney  & Kim take New York.” And if we’ve learned anything from Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, it’s that new marriages and reality TV don’t mix. Which makes it difficult for someone who’s co-opted her fame using the platform of, well, reality TV.
If Maria Shriver chooses to file for divorce, and it looks like she’s leaning that way, Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to be in a heap of financial trouble. Â Shriver has been talking to famous divorce lawyer Laura Wasser about how to proceed, and if everything goes Maria’s way, she could be walking out of the marriage with a sum close to $200 million.
Although most sources seem to think that there was a prenuptial agreement between the two, the fact that they were married for 25 years and that the marriage was ended by infidelity will likely make the document irrelevant. Â Of course, it’ll be up to a judge, but with Wasser and truth on her side, it looks like Maria can’t really go wrong.
This is so not the best time to be selling a house, especially in this economy, but Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whilbley don’t care – they want to get rid of the house they shared when they were together. Â They bought the 12,000-square-foot home in 2007, but now that they are divorced, neither of them has any desire to keep the house.
So if you happen to have a little over $9 million lying around, the house could be yours, along with its eight bedrooms, eleven bathrooms, and a garage for ten cars. There’s also a full fitness center and a wine cellar, if you weren’t already won over at “eleven bathrooms.” Â Or you could just wait six months until they drop the price by a third.
I’ve now completely lost faith in the institution of marriage, as I thought Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver would really be together forever, but it seems I was wrong. Â The couple, who met in 1977 and married in 1986, recently announced that they would be separating after a quarter-century of marriage.
It sounds amicable on paper, but then again it always does – they say their top priority is the children, they want some time to reflect, blah blah blah… all of which means they will most likely be getting a divorce pretty soon.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen a celebrity separation that didn’t end in divorce.
It’s been a crazy situation in the Aguilera household. Â Even though Christina and Jordan have been separated for months now, Jordan has been living in the house with Christina and her new boyfriend. Â Awkward! Â Jordan has finally moved out now, just a few days ago, and in addition the two have come to an amicable divorce settlement.
The couple had a prenuptial agreement, so most of the money stuff was straightforward. Â They will share custody of their son, and word has it that Christina threw “something extra” into the deal for Jordan. Â I bet she’s just glad he finally moved out of the house – how terrible to be forced to live with your ex after a separation.
This was one marriage that people expected to work out, for some reason, but after not even two years of wedded life, Dexter stars Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter have decided to call it quits. Â Apparently they have been separated for quite some time, but kept the news under wraps until yesterday.
Word has it that this will not affect their work on Dexter, as the show has been renewed for a sixth season as normal, and there is no word on why they decided to divorce – it has only been mentioned that the split was amicable. Â This announcement is surprising because when Michael went through his battle with cancer, it seemed like he and Jennifer were as strong as could be and nothing would separate them! Â Guess things change.
After two less-than-stellar years of marriage, Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson have finally admitted that it just isn’t working, and the 26-year-old actress has filed for divorce. Â The couple had been involved in marital drama almost from the moment they tied the knot, and their personality differences turned out to be something they just couldn’t weather.
It has been reported that Scarlett was unhappy for a while, and that it didn’t help matters that both spouses were working full-time on separate projects throughout the duration of their marriage, often spending weeks apart while on location and never really having time to work on their relationship issues. Â Same old Hollywood story!
