Hugh Grant a First-Time Father

Who says age has to play a part in raising a child? The elderly distinguished 51-year-old Hugh Grant became a father for the first time last month, and the actor is now confirming the birth of his baby girl. According to his rep: “He and the mother had a fleeting affair and while this was not planned, Hugh could not be happier or more supportive. He and the mother have discussed everything and are on very friendly terms.”

Clearly, Grant and this mystery mother are not together – nevertheless, he is said to be “beaming” about having a child. He was last linked with the Chinese actress Tinglan Hong but there’s nothing to indicate that she is the mother.

Just two years ago, in an interview with PARADE, Grant revealed that he was ready to have children but, if the time ever came, would be more laid-back than over-protective. “I see a lot of children over-parented now, by my standards,” he said. “Over-adored, over-spoiled. I quite like the children left alone to get on with it.”

Well, money may be able to buy good childcare so he doesn’t have to over-parent, but (as far as we know) it can’t buy life extension therapy, and he’ll be pushing 70 by the time the kid graduates high school. Yikes.
